Detailed description

Detailed Project Description (1800) The first “Bridges in Life Sciences” regional networking meeting was organized in October 2003 by Cedars – Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) with four Hungarian Universities along with the Fogarty International Center (FIC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Budapest, Hungary. University of Debrecen and the Regional Cooperation for Health, Science and Technology (RECOOP) Consortium with eleven Central and Eastern European (CEE) Universities from six countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine) and CSMC from USA are planning to organize the second “Bridges in Life Sciences” meeting on April 3-4, 2009, in Debrecen, Hungary to provide forum for scientist from V4 and the neighboring countries to discuss the major public health problems in the region. The University of Debrecen with the partner organizations selected five priority areas that will be discussed on plenary and in thematic sessions: cardiovascular health, cancer research and prevention, infectious and neurodegenerative diseases, reproductive health and computational diagnostics. In the sessions the CEE and USA scientist will review the funded research programs, the key outcomes and will make recommendations to enhance collaborations and networking. In the discussions young scientists will have a pivotal role to explore future research collaborations for the V4 Scholarship Programme, EU FP7 and NIH grants.
